Bayern needed to win to qualify
Bayern edge past Atletico in a lifeless draw. Bayern playing in home, was always going to be an advantage. But Atletico were making a great impression and looking to snatch some points against a lack lustre Bayern side.
Lewandowski puts ahead Bayern with a stunning free kick
Atletico Madrid made a brisk start. Attacking consistently and looking to score their first goal. It looked all even and both teams looked vulnerable in defence. The visitors conceded a sloppy free kick which was maximised by the polish striker Robert Lewandowski. This meant the home team were leading. This is how it was finished at the first half.
Many chances, many misses
In the second half there was an excellent chance for Bayern. Through Douglas Costa, who didn’t make it count. Both teams created many chances for them self but weren’t able to convert it. This meant, the game ended at 1-0 victory to the german giants. However Atletico still topped the group with 15 points.
How things stand?
This means both teams are now qualified to the knockout stage. It will be interesting to see how they do as both teams look fired up and are one of the favourites to lift the famous trophy.
